The last several years have definitely brought storms into most of our lives.
You know, we can do all the right things, and the storms will still come. So don’t get discouraged or feel like you are a failure. You are only a failure when you quit. And discouragement is not necessarily a bad thing. When you are discouraged or angry because things didn’t go right, it just means that you wanted it badly. That desire to succeed is a good thing, and success generally comes after discouragement–to those who endure. Weather the storm.

AT&T puts limit on 'unlimited data' plans, surprising customers

Mike Trang likes to use his iPhone 4 as a GPS device, helping him get around in his job. Now and then, his younger cousins get ahold of it, and play some YouTube videos and games.

But in the past few weeks, there has been none of that, because AT&T put a virtual wheel clamp on his phone. Web pages wouldn't load and maps wouldn't render. Forget about YouTube videos -- Trang's data speeds were reduced to dial-up levels.

"It basically makes my phone useless," said Trang, an Orange County, Calif. property manager.

The reason: AT&T considers Trang to be among the top 5 percent of the heaviest cellular data users in his area. Under a new policy, AT&T has started cutting their data speeds as part of an attempt to manage data usage on its network.

So last month, AT&T "throttled" Trang's iPhone, slowing downloads by roughly 99 percent. That means a Web page that would normally take a second to load instead took almost two minutes.

AT&T has some 17 million customers with "unlimited data" plans that can be subject to throttling, representing just under half of its smartphone users. It stopped signing up new customers for those plans in 2010, and warned last year that it would start slowing speeds for people who consume the most data.

What's surprising people like Trang is how little data use it takes to reach that level -- sometimes less than AT&T gives people on its "limited" plans.

Trang's iPhone was throttled just two weeks into his billing cycle, after he'd consumed 2.3 gigabytes of data. He pays $30 per month for "unlimited" data. Meanwhile, Dallas-based AT&T now sells a limited, or "tiered," plan that provides 3 gigabytes of data for the same price.

Users report that if they call the company to ask or complain about the throttling, AT&T customer support representatives suggest they switch to the limited plan.

"They're coaxing you toward the tiered plan," said Gregory Tallman in Hopatcong, N.J. He hasn't had his iPhone 4S throttled yet, but he's gotten text-messages from AT&T, warning that he's approaching the limit. This came after he had used just 1.5 gigabytes of data in that billing cycle.

John Cozen, a Web and mobile applications designer in San Diego, hasn't been throttled yet either, but he's been so disturbed by a warning that he's "almost scared to use the phone," he said. Complaining to AT&T got him nowhere, and now he's looking to switch to another carrier.

"I don't think two to three gigabytes is an exorbitant amount," he said. "Really, I'm just looking at pictures and text once in a while."

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said that as of last summer, the top 5 percent of data users were using 2 gigabytes of data per month. But he also said the company doesn't actually throttle all of the top 5 percent "unlimited" data users. Last month, the figure was only 0.5 percent, or about 200,000 people, he said.

That's because AT&T only throttles users in areas where the wireless network is congested that month, Siegel said.
Siegel also pointed out that aside from moving to a tiered plan, "unlimited" plan users on the cusp of being throttled can use one of AT&T's 30,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, where usage is unmetered.

The unlimited plan worked fine for AT&T a few years ago, when the iPhone was new. The company had ample capacity on its network, and wanted to lure customers with the peace of mind offered by unlimited plans. Now, a majority of AT&T subscribers on contract-based plans have smartphones, and the proportion is growing every month. That's putting a big load on AT&T's network.

The limited data plans force subscribers to keep an eye on their usage, so they don't overwhelm AT&T's network. Verizon Wireless has adopted similar plans. But the two companies differ in how they manage their remaining "unlimited" subscribers.

Verizon doesn't slow down the "5 percent" unless the cell tower their phone is connected to is congested at that moment, and it slows them down by the minimum amount necessary. By contrast, once AT&T has decided to throttle your phone, it will be slow for the rest of the billing cycle, even if it's 3 a.m. and there are no other cell phones competing for the capacity of that particular cell tower.

Verizon's measures have drawn few complaints, and indeed, may have gone unnoticed even by the "5 percent."
T-Mobile USA is up front about the level it starts throttling at: 5 gigabytes. AT&T subscribers have no idea if they might be among the top 5 percent until they get the warning, which is soon followed by throttled service. While Trang was throttled at 2.3 gigabytes, he knows other iPhone owners who are using 5 or 6 gigabytes per month with impunity.
"It seems very random," Trang said.

Sprint Nextel Corp. is hanging on to unlimited data plans without throttling, alone among the "Big Four" national wireless carriers.

Tallman sees few prospects for a lawsuit against AT&T. The company is still providing unlimited data usage to throttled customers, even if the speeds are so low as to make the phone useless for anything but phone calls and text messages. The company made no promises that "unlimited" data would always be coupled with high speeds, he notes.
"They just guaranteed the highway. They didn't guarantee the speed limit," he said.

Brand New Experience for Hero Devices!Success is not without its challenges. We got bombarded with orders upon our official launch into retail and had no idea the orders would come so quickly and in such volume. Now it is confirmed that our message is being heard loud and clear. We have been working diligently to process all orders and get caught up so we can start getting orders processed and shipped in a more timely fashion. We are finally coming up for air. We will be launching 3 additional warehouses strategically positioned from the east to the west of the USA over the next couple of months to make sure we can deliver all hardware from sea to shining sea in two days maximum. We know that several of you have been patiently waiting for your devices to arrive but we need you to continue to be patient. All orders will be complete and all devices should be in your possession before the end next week. All of this time, with the help of Family Leader and technical genius Jeff DeMaertelaere, we have been beefing up our HTC Hero devices big time to get them on par with some of the latest overpriced hardware that you can get from other providers. Even though our hardware is a little slower spec wise than what other companies actively promote, that really doesn't matter. The Hero is probably one of the best and most robust HTC devices ever built from a hardware/dependability standpoint and the Operating System (OS) and Graphical User Interface (GUI) are the true keys to a solid smartphone experience. What most of our competition is notorious for doing is keeping their customers bound by contract on older OSes and leaving more recent versions (albeit still behind current standards) to the new devices they will release for sale. That is dirty as far as we are concerned and a dubious trick to get people to extend their contracts for a longer term just to get a better experience. To add salt to the wound, they take it a step further and even 'penalize' you for 'Rooting' your phone to gain access to bigger and better OSes and the latest and greatest functionality. All in the name of greed and to satisfy the insatiable monetary appetites of shareholders. That is an insane and bass ackwards approach to business as far as we're concerned. You have spent your own hard-earned dollars and gave up two years of your life for the device that you own and we feel that it is yours to do with as you will. That is one of the most fundamental essences of what Spirit is all about as a wireless company. The freedom to liberate yourself from the shackles of traditional communications company limitations without sacrificing quality or the overall user experience. We are truly the new Spirit in wireless communications and everything else we do. With that being said, this is what we have done.
When we initially received our Hero devices, they were running Android 2.1 (Froyo) and HTC Sense 2.0. A simple Google search will reveal the severe limitations of the Froyo OS in today's app and data intensive smartphone marketplace and how OS 2.2 made huge improvements and removed most of those limitations. But we took it quite a few steps further. Now we have two incredible versions of enhanced Android OSes for you to choose from and both of them boot with our brand new Spirit splash screen (pictured right) to make everything absolutely official inside and out. For you HTS Sense lovers, the Hero is running Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) and HTC Sense 3.5 (Click Here for Overview 2). This is almost the exact same operating system that is shipping on newer HTC devices costing more than twice the price, like the HTC Rhyme. We also have a barebones Android version running Android 2.3.7 that can go toe-to-toe with some of the newest most powerful devices out there. And there are significant improvements between 2.1 and 2.3.5/2.3.7. Some of them include the following:

Save all Market Apps to SD Card instead of internal storage for better phone performance.

Triniti corporate, our families and some of our leaders have been aggressively using these OSes over the last couple of weeks and they have been phenomenal. We are confident that everyone will be pleased and very excited to go out into the world with your newly optimized Heroes and give people a glimpse of what is to come from Spirit and Triniti on just a small scale. We truly do have something that is very unique as a wireless company and something that you can definitely be proud of as we continue to move forward with better options and more advanced technologies.

We just cleared the OSes for release to the Family/Customers yesterday after being about a week and a half behind schedule in development. We decided to upgrade all Hero devices prior toshipping instead of putting the burden on the consumers to do so. This will eliminate a lot of problems with people trying to do the updates themselves and getting lost in the process. All Hero devices from orders in our system currently on forward are being upgraded to the new Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.5 OS by default with the 2.3.7 on the internal SD card for you to switch to if you choose. Just power it on and you are good to go. Full instructions on how to upgrade/change your OS on your own will be in the Spirit customer forum in the next few days along with a video tutorial by Jeff. We will also have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) available soon as well in a future upgrade and this tutorial will prove to be very handy when you are ready to make the switch to ICS.

For everyone in the Family now who has a Hero out in the field (primarily SFMs), you will receive an email from us in the next day or so to attend a special webinar session at 7pm EST on Friday 2/10/12 hosted by Jeff D. This webinar will walk you through upgrading your phone in real-time. When the webinar concludes, all of you will have the latest and greatest OS installed on your Heroes to go and show of to the world on YouTube and everywhere else. Note: If you already have a device and want your number Ported, you must get your number ported before the new OS is put on your phone to avoid any potential issues. We suggest you get the Porting request completed by 10am EST tomorrow in order to get your number ported in time for the webinar Friday night. Everyone who has not received their devices as of yet can disregard this porting message.

Tomorrow, FMs who have paid their Business Startup Fees (Qualified FMs) and Retail customers are welcome to begin placing orders.

At 10pm EST on 1/21/2012, SFMs are welcome to begin placing their orders for their free Spirit Hero Android smartphone and Spirit wireless service. A special email will be sent to all SFMs in the Family prior to that time with detailed instructions on how to place your order properly. Follow these easy instructions carefully to avoid any issues.
At 12pm EST on 1/22/2012, QFMs are welcome to begin placing their orders for their new Spirit wireless service. A special email will be sent to all QFMs in the Family with detailed instructions on how to place your order properly. Follow these easy instructions carefully to avoid any issues.
At 7pm EST on 1/22/2012, we will begin accepting retail orders for our Spirit Wireless service through our corporate, FMS and CMS web sites. All links for ordering Spirit as a retail customer will be live on the corporate site at or before that time. The order process has been completely refined and makes placing a secure order very easy and straightforward for customers.

Soon after launching retail and our processes have begun to smooth out and stabilize, we will also perform an email broadcast to all of the Spirit leads that you have worked to generate over the last year or so. Each message will be personalized with your information to appear as if it came from you directly. The message will inform people that the service is ready and provide them with your personalized link to your Spirit web site. We have over 20,000 leads in our system so your patience will be greatly appreciated.

Spirit Wireless Division Launch
As many of you may have already heard through the grapevine, we began shipping our
Spirit Hero Android Smartphones to Leaders and other SFMs a couple of days ago. In
fact, tonight's Revolution call will be our first official call where the Host and
Speakers will be using their own brand-spanking new Spirit devices for the call. 

Spirit is completely ready to go for the Family (FMS) and existing Customer sides
(CMS) of the business. The retail portion of our Spirit ordering system will be live
within the next two weeks max to open the doors up for retail ordering from your
customers. We will send out another FMS Alert when this portion is live.

Note: Please keep in mind that initially only SFMs and FMs who have paid their
Business Startup Fees (Active FMs), will be allowed to place orders for their
devices until we green light going retail. If you do not meet this criteria and
place an order, it will be treated as a retail customer and queued until the retail
portion goes live.

New Personalizable Spirit Flyer in FMS!
We have uploaded an awesome new Spirit flyer into the FMS for you to personalize
with your own information and print out as many professional digital copies as you
desire. We will have them available for ordering in the FMS Marketplace in large
quantities of 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 as well in the very near future. The new
GeneSys flyer will be live in the FMS as well next week. To access the new flyer log
into the FMS and in the Control Panel go to 'Marketing Center --> Sales Literature'.

MLM Selection, Rich Dad Style

In several recent posts I have given my opinion about what are the most important keys to look for when selecting a network marketing business, with an emphasis on the people that you would work with a particular company and the leadership rather than a particular product or compensation plan. Consider for a moment what you would do if you were selecting a business partner in a traditional business, wouldn’t it be wise to consider their skills they were bringing to the table you signed up. Can you really believe that there is a “once in a lifetime” or “like nothing this industry has seen or will ever see” product or compensation plan? If you don’t take my word for it, get your MLM Ideas from Robert Kiyosaki in his book, Business of The 21st Century where he outlines the importance of what to look for when selecting a network marketing company.

Before we get to his insight, remember that this not only applies to someone that is looking for a company, but if you are recruiting people to your business, are you positioning yourself to offer your prospects a network marketing business opportunity that sets them up for success?

“When choosing a company to work with, the product is not the most important consideration”

Don’t get me wrong, the product is most certainly important, but how many times have you heard someone say that their product or comp plan is the best thing out there? One thing you have to consider is where they are getting that information from, and most of the time it is from their upline, who is not exactly the most impartial source for this information because they have a vested interest in someone signing up for their business. The same argument goes for the company. What you have to ask yourself, is are you in it for the product or are you in it to make money?

“The number one reason I recommend network marketing is for its system of real-world business education and personal development”

This is true many times over as network marketing provides a route for anyone to get sales experience, a skill that is critical to almost any industry and is also good for improving the your interpersonal relationship skills. Additionally, you can’t underemphasize the confidence that network marketing can give to someone by providing a way to build a business, even if they wouldn’t have the opportunity to do it in any other industry. You are provided with the keys to the castle, so to speak.

“Who is running the ship?”

This one is the absolute most important thing to consider. This can mean the leadership in the company, but probably more importantly the leadership within your group or your upline. Think to yourself, what are they providing to me that is going to help me to be as successful as I possibly can? Conversely, if you are already in network marketing, what can you offer your team or your prospects that will not only bring in more prospects, but will help them to be productive once they are on your team?

“DOES THE COMPANY EMBRACE BOTH BUSINESS SKILLS AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AS A REGULAR PART OF ITS EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS?”

This is more of a follow-up from the points listed above in that these components fall into the same category as tools that you may provide to you particular team, but these may be available directly from the company. Remember that you are starting up a real business, don’t make the mistake of not traeting it like one and getting swept up in the hype!

What do Sam Walton and Jeff Bezos all have in common? They took pre-existing industries and found a more effective way to deliver their services or products to the consumers by building networks. Sam Walton (Wal-Mart), didn’t manufacture goods, but he innovated a way in which he could deliver those goods by building a distribution network that would deliver those goods. Jeff Bezos (Amazon), didn’t write or publish books, but he built a network in which he could use the internet to sell and distribute those books and even built a system (Kindle) where those books could be delivered instantly to customers in an easy, clear format. The point here is that the power isn’t in the product, but rather in the network that you build to distribute the product. With network marketing, you are provided with the tools needed to build your own network, without the innovation that these men had, and it is open to anyone to get in. Moreover, you are able to build your network instead of working to build the network for someone else. What kind of MLM Ideas can you provide that will help to expand your network?

What About The Products?

Don’t get me wrong, the products are important, but what is more important is can you use that product or service to build a network that provides you with income? Network marketing is filled with people that are boasting the best compensation plan or the best products, and they may be great, but the majority of people are in network marketing in order to make money, or to help others make money. The products may serve as a way to get people interested in the company, so they are not unimportant, but what is more important is your ability to use your value, the products and the overall network marketing company to expand your network.

Illegal Franchises

In the 1950s, companies like McDonalds, Ace Hardware and others like them, started to provide investors opportunities to use their brand and their products to expand their company across the country. In the early stages of this process, Congress came within a slim margin of declaring this process illiegal, the process is what we now call franchising. This is a business model in which the brand and blueprint is copied that share the same values. In network marketing, you are essentially franchising individuals to promote the involvement of others in your business, and gives a low-cost, low-risk, way to build your own network as an independent business owner. One of the main differences in network marketing compared to a franchise, is that not only are you part of the network in MLM, but you actually own the network, rather than just being a piece as if you owned a franchise where you just own your particular business within the network.

This gives you remarkable leverage because rather than just being reliant on the business in “your store” you can directly profit from the growth of the networks of the other people that are your “customers”. Think of it as if the people that came into McDonalds and ate a Happy Meal, could then go and sell them and you would profit based on their success. Sounds like a pretty good deal, right?

With all this in mind, the question you have to ask yourself is: am I putting myself and my team in the best position to build a large, sustainable network?
